After a tough double-overtime loss to Bluffton in March, Hilton Head High girls lacrosse got its revenge Monday, dominating the Bobcats 14-5 on the road for a huge Region 7-4A win.
The Seahawks controlled possession early on in the contest, but Bluffton was able to cash in on its scoring chances to take an early 4-2 lead. Hilton Head answered with a 3-0 run, as Anna Ferrebee and Brooke Simons scored two quick goals to tie it with a minute to go in the half, and Ferrebee added one more with just 30 seconds left to put the Seahawks on top 5-4.
Kara Cooke’s squad kept on rolling in the second half, scoring on a remarkable seven straight possessions to put the game out of reach.
Simons led a sensational Seahawk performance with three goals to go along with a pair of assists for five points. Ella Christie also scored three while adding an assist, and Ferrebee notched a third Seahawk hat-trick. Allie Jeffery and Bailey Olive each added two goals along with an assist for Jeffrey, and Sarah Kate Shupp rounded out the scoring with one goal.
The Seahawks’ stifling defense allowed just seven shots on goal while putting 26 on cage at the other end of the field.
Hilton Head (7-3, 7-2) returns home to face Savannah Christian on Saturday.
Bluffton (6-4, 5-4) hosts Seymour (Tenn.) on Wednesday.
