HS SOC: Seahawks blank Sharks for third straight win

Hilton Head High girls soccer ran its win streak to three games with a 5-0 shutout of visiting May River on Tuesday.

Abbie Lainhart scored a hat trick, Sarah Neville scored for the second straight game, and Payton Kurtz finished off a beautiful corner from Ella Maldonado to account for all the scoring for the Seahawks, who have outpaced their last three opponents 11-1.

The Seahawks went in with the goal of winning both halves and did exactly that, outscoring the Sharks 3-0 before halftime and tacking on two more goals in the second half while preserving the clean sheet behind strong play from center backs Julia Willey and Charlotte Schmidt.

“Hats off to May River,” HHIHS coach Kit Seelbach said. “They were tough competition tonight. Goalkeeper Maddie Haun and central player Zoe Stevenson put forth great efforts tonight.”

The Seahawks (4-3, 3-1) travel across town for a cross-island clash with Hilton Head Prep on Thursday.

“We really look forward to the challenge ahead,” Seelbach said.

The Sharks (1-5, 0-3) play a region match at Beaufort High on Tuesday.
