HS GSOC: Wilson comes up big in shootout for Eagles

After 90 minutes of scoreless soccer, Beaufort High’s girls converted four of their five attempts in a penalty shootout, and Quinn Wilson made two saves to preserve a Region 7-4A victory over visiting Lucy Beckham on Tuesday.

The Eagles and Bengals played to a scoreless draw in regulation and during two five-minute overtime periods, sending the match to a shootout.

After Caroline Louw, Reese Myers, and Payton Mullen each converted their penalties, but the Bengals matched them.

Then Wilson took over. The sophomore keeper stopped Beckham’s fourth attempt, came out of goal to calmly convert her shot, then made another save to clinch the win.

Midfielder Anna Brown was the catalyst for the Eagles’ strong defensive play throughout.

The Eagles (2-4-1, 1-3) continue region play with a trip to Colleton County on Thursday.
