Hilton Head High baseball suffered its first region loss Monday, dropping a tough 4-2 decision at James Island.
The Seahawks carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning, but James Island fought back with a clutch two-out, two-RBI single from Ayrton Leichner to snatch away the advantage.
Hilton Head High had a chance to answer right away in the sixth, but the Seahawks stranded the bases loaded after a pickoff ended the threat. James Island tacked on an insurance run in the bottom half and held off the visitors in the seventh to hand HHIHS its first region loss of the year.
Daniel Keber delivered a strong effort for the Seahawks, throwing five innings with five strikeouts while going 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate. Juju Mlodzinski picked up a pair of hits, and Ethan Russo drove in a run.
Hilton Head High (7-5, 4-1) and James Island (6-3-1, 4-1) face off again at HHIHS on Wednesday.
