Hilton Head High baseball outhit Oceanside Collegiate on Saturday but couldn’t cash in enough runs in a hard-fought 6-4 home defeat.
The Landsharks went out in front 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but Hilton Head struck right back in the bottom half with a Juju Mlodzinski line-drive single to cut the lead to a run.
Oceanside extended the advantage with another run in the fifth before plating three in the sixth to go up 6-1. The Seahawks matched the visitors’ three-run sixth thanks to a fielding error and a Tyler Brigham RBI single to close the gap to a pair.
Tate Miller threw a 1-2-3 top of the seventh, and the Seahawks brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom half before a groundout ended the comeback bid.
Mlodzinski dazzled at the plate, leading the Seahawks with a 3-for-4 game while driving in a run. Ethan Russo collected a pair of hits, and Brigham was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Kyle Markowitz threw a strong three innings in relief, allowing just a single earned run while surrendering no hits.
Hilton Head High (7-4, 4-0) makes the trip to James Island on Monday for the first contest of a key two-game Region 7-4A series with the Trojans.
