Bluffton sophomore Parker Ray tossed a three-hit gem as the Bobcats opened the Region 7-4A softball season with a 12-0 road win over rival Hilton Head High.
Ray was dominant, striking out 10 while allowing just three singles and one walk, and the Bobcats didn’t waste any time getting her a lead. Katie Ryan singled to lead off the game, stole second and third, and scored on an error for a 1-0 lead.
Ray sparked a four-run rally in the third when she was hit by a pitch and stole second before scoring on Alyssa Rose’s RBI single. Reagan Kelly followed with an RBI double and later scored on a Sydnee Poliquin groundout, and Bluffton swiped another run with heads-up baserunning.
Rose and Poliquin also delivered run-scoring singles in the four-run fourth, as the Bobcats took advantage of several Seahawk miscues. Bluffton tacked on three more runs in the fifth to invoke the 10-run rule.
Kelly was 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, two runs, and two RBIs, while Rose was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored three times.
The Bobcats (1-0) will host the Seahawks (0-1) for the series finale at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
