The “One Lowco” concept came to fruition in summer 2020, after watching numerous student-athletes from our coverage area take an active role in the demonstrations in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. The events of that summer drove home the fact that we are all in this together and must stand up for one another. What the One Lowco movement would eventually become was unclear, but we knew it would be a part of our mission at some point down the road.
A series of unfortunate, unthinkable events in early 2021 — all involving student-athletes — made it clear that needed to happen sooner than later. So it starts now.
In spring 2020, in the midst of the initial COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, we launched the “LowcoStrong” campaign, selling 700 t-shirts and raising $7,000 for local charities.
Now, we’re doing it again. Each purchase of one of our new “One Lowco” t-shirts will result in a $10 donation to the families of Bluffton High School student-athletes Dwon (DJ) Fields Jr. and Edwin (EJ) Graham Jr., who were the victims of a drive-by shooting in March 2021. DJ was killed in the shooting, and EJ remains hospitalized and his family faces massive medical expenses. Fellow Bobcat Kylan Simmons also was injured in the incident.
We will take orders through Friday, March 19, before beginning production and deliver the shirts as quickly as possible. If there is enough demand for a second order, we’ll open it back up and keep raising money for an incredibly worthy cause.
When we hurt, we help. If you are able, please help us help these families in need and remind our community that we are #OneLowco. Links to order your shirt are below. Don’t need a shirt? Here are some other ways to donate directly. Thank you for your support. #GoLOWCO 💙💚🌴💚💙
