HS GSOC: HHCA overcomes early deficit to win at JPII

Hilton Head Christian Academy girls soccer traveled to region rival John Paul II and came away with a 4-1 win over the Golden Warriors on Thursday.

The Eagles were able to control most of the hard-fought match after JPII jumped out to an early lead. JPII’s senior co-captain, Gin White, led the team with their only goal after taking the first shot on a direct foul against the Eagles, but the Golden Warriors couldn’t get their offense running the rest of the game.

Sophomore Abby Peduzzi led the Eagles with three goals, while senior Abigail Scott dished out an assist to Bless Hurtado, who also scored a goal for HHCA. Mikayla Kelca had an impressive performance in the goal, only letting in one goal in the first half, and Isabelle Cunningham took over the second half as keeper.

JPII senior co-captain Alondra Hurtado pushed through the game managing the offense, but HHCA’s defense was up to the task.

HHCA (1-1, 1-0) was back in action Friday against Palmetto Christian Academy. The Golden Warriors (1-3, 0-2) hosts Colleton Prep at 4 p.m. Monday.
