HS GSOC: Dolphins dominant in first region test vs. JPII

Hilton Head Prep’s girls faced their first region rival of the season Monday, coming home with an 8-1 victory at John Paul II.

Sadie Callen had an impressive and hard-fought night, scoring four goals against JPII’s Trinity Grace Maxwell, while Ansleigh Crenshaw added three goals, and Shania Diaz had a goal and two assists. Kylie Foley, Bryn Miller, and Halie Klinger also contributed for the Dolphins with each dishing out an assist.

JPII’s Gin White and Alondra Hurtado led the team with their strong defense against a talented Prep squad that boasts two NCAA Division I commits this season. Despite a great effort from the whole team, JPII wasn’t able to push off the Dolphins’ attacking offense.

JPII finally broke through late in the game, when Hurtado dished out an assist to Paige Weniger, who finished off the only goal of the game for the Golden Warriors.

It was the first official win of the season for the Dolphins, who opened with a 7-0 loss to Glynn Academy but defeated May River 1-0 in a scrimmage Friday.

HHP (1-1) will face Holy Trinity at 4 p.m. Tuesday, while JPII (1-1) travels to May River at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
