Hayden Jennings etched his name in John Paul II‘s record books with an incredible 15 strikeouts in five innings, and the Golden Warriors used a seven-run fourth to double up Beaufort Academy 12-6 at home on Monday.
JPII got the game rolling with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, but the Eagles matched the tally in the top of the second to even the score at 2. The squads traded a run each before the Golden Warriors blew it open in the fourth, plating seven in the frame behind eighth-grader Bryant Jolley’s two-RBI knock and a Nate McDonough inside-the-park home run to go out in front 10-3.
BA added a pair in the sixth to cut the advantage to five, but JPII responded with two of its own in the bottom half to restore the seven-run advantage before the home side closed it out.
In addition to his brilliant performance on the mound, breaking the single-game school strikeout record with 15, Jennings delivered at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI while picking up two stolen bases. McDonough was 2-for-4 with the home run, and the quartet of Peter Hughes, Landry Donath, Rance Jennings, and Christian Tilton all picked up a hit. The Golden Warriors cashed in on the basepaths, stealing five bags in the game.
Braydon Dineen paced Beaufort Academy from the leadoff spot, going 3-for-3 with an RBI.
