Hilton Head High’s girls brought the fight to Beaufort High in their first action in nearly a month, but Layla Warren was lethal.

The Eagles got off to a hot start, as Warren dropped in eight in the first quarter to build a 16-8 lead and Beaufort led 22-16 at halftime.

The Seahawks surged back in the third, as Lynda Young and Janiya Ferebee heated up and closed the gap, forging a 30-30 tie heading to the fourth.

Then it was Layla Time.

Warren took over down the stretch, stroking a 3-pointer off a kickout from Quinn Wilson, then grabbing a long rebound and blowing by a defender on the way to the rim for the coast-to-coast finish.

Ki’Ayisa Moultrie added six, including a big bucket in the fourth quarter, and Jayla Daise had six for the Eagles.

Young finished with 15, Ferebee had 13, and Anna Genova added seven for the Seahawks, who played for the first time since Jan. 12.

Beaufort (6-4, 5-3) remains in play for the No. 2 seed in the Region 7-4A tournament heading into their regular-season finale at home against May River on Wednesday.
