The Cougars came out inspired in their first game since the passing of former All-State guard Alex Sherrill. Freshman Brian Hamilton, who handed over his usual No. 11 jersey — Alex’s old number — to Alston Sherrill for the night, poured in 30 points to lead the Cougars, including 10 during the first quarter as Colleton raced to a 23-8 lead.
The Eagles hit their stride in the second, outscoring the Cougars 22-10 to pull within three at halftime, and they controlled the third quarter as well, opening up a six-point lead going into the fourth.
Hamilton heated up again in the fourth, scoring eight points, and Silas Holmes added eight of his 12 to keep the Cougars in it until the end. Deshawn Blocker added 13 for Colleton.
