HSGBB: Wolverines’ Cooper too much for Bobcats

Bluffton’s girls went toe-to-toe with Class 1A No. 3 East Clarendon on Saturday, but the Bobcats didn’t have an answer for Wolverines star Talaysia Cooper.

Cooper, ESPN’s eighth-ranked player nationally in the 2022 class, finished just three assists shy of a quadruple-double, racking up 29 points, 17 rebounds, 10 blocks, and seven assists to lead the Wolverines to a 51-42 road win over the Bobcats.

The Bobcats were within three at halftime, but East Clarendon outscored Bluffton 12-4 in the third quarter to take control, and Bluffton couldn’t close the gap. Tacoya Heyward scored 16 points to go with five rebounds and five assists for the Bobcats, while Kayleigh Washington (10 points, 11 rebounds) and Samari Mitchell (10 points, 10 rebounds) both notched double-doubles.

Bluffton (0-1) travels to Beaufort High to open Region 7-4A play Dec. 15.
