We’ll have full recaps and multimedia coverage coming throughout the weekend, but here’s your first look at the high school football playoff action from around the Lowco on Friday night.

SCHSL FIRST ROUND

Class 4A

Beaufort High 45, West Florence 14: The Eagles opened the playoffs in impressive fashion, as Amariee Morris rushed for four TDs and Beaufort’s defense was dominant, forcing two punts from deep in Knights territory that resulted in safeties. Beaufort will host Myrtle Beach next Friday.

North Augusta 20, May River 13 (OT): The Sharks let a 13-0 lead slip away in the fourth quarter and couldn’t match the Yellowjackets’ score in overtime. Ahmad Green scored the lone touchdown for May River, and Jonah Comfort booted two field goals.

Class 1A

Whale Branch 52, Johnsonville 12: The sixth-ranked Warriors dominated every phase of the game from the outset to blow out the seventh-ranked Flashes and improve to 8-0. Joseph Hicks and Jadon Grant each scored two TDs, and the Whale Branch defense shut down the dangerous Flashes to earn a trip to Bamberg-Ehrhardt in the second round.
