Hilton Head High returned from a two-week quarantine to suffer its first defeat in an abbreviated season, falling 34-13 at Colleton County on Friday.
The Seahawks were sluggish from the start and couldn’t recover, as the Cougars ran all over Hilton Head High’s defense.
Nayrone Holmes scored three touchdowns on the run, and Trey Magwood added a pair of TDs on the ground to power Colleton County to its second straight win.
The Cougars led 20-0 at halftime before Jayden Gilliam gave the Seahawks life with a 95-yard kickoff return to start the second half. It was a short-lived rejuvenation, though, as Colleton County clamped down and kept the Seahawks out of the end zone until Sam Summa’s 4-yard TD run with 11 seconds left in the game.
The Seahawks (2-1) will wrap up the season by hosting Lakewood at 7:30 p.m. next Saturday.
