HSFB: Bridge Bowl win worth the wait for Seahawks

After having to wait an extra two weeks to take the field, making it to kickoff Friday night was a treat for Hilton Head High. A 35-12 road win over rival Bluffton in the Bridge Bowl was the icing.

Jaylen Sneed scored three rushing touchdowns and had two sacks on defense, and Jayden Gilliam picked off two passes, returned a fumble for a touchdown, and caught a touchdown pass to power the Seahawks to the long-awaited season-opening win.

The Seahawks took some time to get going, but Sneed got them on the board with the first of his three rushing scores. The Bobcats pulled within one on a touchdown pass from Nate Hoyt to Jaylin Linder, but Sneed found the end zone and Chase McCracken added the two-point conversion to push the lead to 15-6.

Sneed’s final touchdown run made it 21-6, and then Gilliam took over with a 60-yard scoop-and-score and a touchdown grab from Sam Summa, who was 11-for-17 for 155 yards and a touchdown and added 55 yards on six carries. Lavarus Brown rushed for 96 yards on 10 carries, and Sneed finished with 62 yards on eight rushes. Adam Clark caught four passes for a team-high 56 yards.

Hoyt also connected with Tre’Von Brown for a touchdown in the second half.

The Seahawks (1-0) host James Island on Friday, while the Bobcats (0-3) travel to undefeated Beaufort High.
