May River’s boys raced to an impressive third-place finish in a 23-team field, and Anya Arroyo captured the girls individual title for the Sharks at the Military Magnet Academy Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
The Sharks placed five runners in the top 25 in the boys race to give May River a team total of 74 points, finishing behind only Bishop England (57) and Wando (68).
Colin Keck led the Sharks with a fifth-place finish in 16:38, while Jaxon Beebe (11th, 16:56) just missed the top 10, and Mills Campbell (16th, 17:19), Sean Hamby (17th, 17:20), and Cohen MacDonald (25th, 17:39) also ran strong.
Holy Trinity’s boys finished 10th with Luke Greene (38th, 18:19) leading the charge for the Lions and Daniel Reedy (44th, 18:32) cracking the top 50 against some strong competition.
May River’s girls placed 10th among 17 teams despite an outstanding performance from Arroyo, whose time of 18:34 was 37 seconds faster than runner-up Ailish Ward of Ashley Hall. Victoria Sosa placed 26th in 21:20, followed by Caroline Stickler (56th, 22:23).
Holy Trinity’s girls placed 14th with Hannah Reedy (92nd, 23:35) leading the Lions.
