Hilton Head High’s volleyball team faced one of its toughest tests of the season Thursday at May River, but the Seahawks emerged with a 3-1 victory in the battle of the last two undefeated teams in Region 7-4A.
The Seahawks overcame a third-set lull to claim a 3-1 (25-18, 25-11, 22-25, 25-22) victory and take over the top spot in the region standings. Makenna Mason dished out 35 assists to go with six digs and five kills and didn’t miss a serve to lead the way for HHIHS.

Ady O’Grady pounded a team-high 18 kills and added four aces and three blocks in the middle for the Seahawks, while Brooke Simons had 14 digs and two aces and Lilly Edri added 10 digs and a pair of aces.
The Sharks had rolled through the early part of their schedule, but they couldn’t sustain the rally after taking the third set. Lillian Long led the way for May River with seven kills, and Addison Black added six kills and three aces. Gabby Boegel had eight assists, seven aces, and nine digs, while Brigit Hegan rose up for five blocks.
The Seahawks (6-0) travel to James Island on Thursday. The Sharks (4-1) are back at home Thursday to host Beaufort High for Senior Night.
