PGA Tour suspends schedule, but RBC Heritage still on for now

The RBC Heritage Presented By Boeing is still on … for now.

The PGA Tour announced Thursday the suspension of its schedule through the Valero Texas Open — the week before the Masters and two weeks before the Heritage — and the Masters followed with its postponement Friday in an effort to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus that cause COVID-19 respiratory disease.

Because the RBC Heritage is beyond that time frame, the staff is continuing to proceed with the planning and execution of the event. The tournament is set for April 13-19 at Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island.

The Heritage Classic Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization, enhances the quality of life and economic vitality of our region by hosting the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing, South Carolina’s only PGA TOUR golf tournament.

“Together with the PGA Tour, the Heritage Classic Foundation is mindful of concerns regarding COVID-19,” tournament officials said in a release. “The health and safety of our spectators, players, sponsors, volunteers, employees and all associated with the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing is our number one priority.

“This is obviously a very fluid situation that requires constant review, communication and transparency, and we are dedicated to all three aspects. Working with the PGA TOUR, we will continue to monitor information provided by the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control, and local and state government leaders. We will offer regular status updates in the coming weeks including any additional protocols put in place to ensure the health and safety of all in attendance.”

Fans are encouraged to stay informed on the developments of COVID-19 through official sources such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website (cdc.gov). The tournament will provide further updates as new information becomes available.
