May River’s boys went on the road and pulled off the first-round upset Tuesday, shocking host Strom Thurmond 58-51 in the Class 3A playoffs.
Jimmie Green scored 13 points and big man Brady Harrell added 11 to lead the way for the Sharks. Harry Cash and Gavin Blocker added nine points each for May River.
The Sharks were down 25-22 at halftime before outscoring the Rebels 16-11 in the third period and easing away down the stretch.
May River (7-11) will travel to top-seeded and second-ranked Bishop England for a second round game Friday.
