HSBBB: Calloway goes wild (again) as Dolphins down Eagles

Another night at Hilton Head Prep, another edition of the Tyrone Calloway Show.

In an important region game against his team’s bitter rivals, the senior put up 38 points for the second time in four games, as the Dolphins’ offense exploded in an 85-52 victory over Hilton Head Christian Academy on Friday.

“You never know what’ll happen in a rivalry game,” HHP coach Jerry Faulkner said. “Our kids were ready to play, and we hit a spurt in the third quarter, which was the killer blow. Our guys were so unselfish today passing the ball.”

After an 11-10 start, the Dolphins scored 10 consecutive points to stretch the lead and rode the hot shooting to a 39-26 advantage at the half. They got even hotter in the third, racking up 29 in the period to cement the win, including 18 from Calloway.

The offense was an unstoppable force, as Prep’s superb passing resulted in open threes and excellent looks at the rim. The rebounding was controlled by the Dolphins all night, and the defense was intense and stepped up in important spots.

“We knew who their shooters were and tried to emphasize on them,” Faulkner said. “We thought we had an advantage inside, but we ended up going both inside and outside which makes us really hard to guard.”

Everyone who dressed for the game played, and four Dolphins scored in double figures.

Calloway’s massive 38-point performance gave way to a chorus of “MVP” chants from an electric Dolphin student section.

Stone McDonald added 14 to complement Calloway, while Luke Bennett scored 11 points including three triples, and Ryan Mikell added 10 off the bench. Luke Foley led the team in rebounding.

Quinn Ryan paced the Eagles with 10 points.
