HSBBB: Beaufort High buzzes to big win over Sharks

The Eagles Nest turned out to be a hornet’s nest for visiting May River on Tuesday night.

An electric home crowd and a 26-point night from Jamaad Rivers helped fuel Beaufort High’s boys to a hard-fought 69-59 win over the visiting Sharks in a game that saw both teams battle throughout.

Oliver Holmes added 17 points, Ben VanHise had 12 points, and Daniel Phares collected eight points and eight rebounds for the Eagles. Harry Cash scored 23 points, and Andrew Mersberger had 13 to lead the Sharks.

The Eagles started off hot raced to a 14-point with two minutes left in the first quarter, but the Sharks kept on fighting their way back into the game.

Beaufort kept knocking down shots and playing great defense to maintain a double-digit advantage and led 43-32 at halftime.

The third quarter was suspenseful, as both teams went back and forth, but the Eagles didn’t back off at all, and neither did the Kirkland Krazies, who kept the energy up the entire game.

The Sharks rallied within two midway through the fourth quarter, but they couldn’t finish the comeback.
