In the battle of crosstown rivals, the Hilton Head High boys made light work of Friday’s game, beating Hilton Head Prep 60-44 to give first-year coach Chane Brown his first victory.
Dean Seelbach opened the scoring in the first 10 seconds of the game to put the Seahawks on the board and helped the home team stay ahead the rest of the way. The Dolphins tried to keep up, but big plays on both sides of the court from Sam Summa and Gaston Moore helped the Seahawks keep a comfortable lead throughout the game.
Summa led the scoring for the Seahawks with 14 points, followed by Seelbach and Moore with 12 apiece. Strong efforts from Adam Clark and Bradley Morris helped the Seahawks dominate offensively throughout the night.
Luke Bennett had 12 points, and Tyrone Calloway and Stone McDonald added 11 apiece to lead the Dolphins.
Hilton Head High struggled on defense at Wade Hampton on Tuesday, but the Seahawks played a strong defensive game against the Dolphins to clinch their first win of the season.
“In practice (this week), Coach Brown really stressed defensive intensity and tonight we picked it up, pressured them, and got after it,” Summa said.
The Seahawks did just that to give Brown his first win on the same court where he was a standout in high school.
“It really means a lot to win here in front of our home crowd,” Brown said. “And it means a lot that our first win (this season) is here in front of our family.”
The Seahawks (1-1) will look to improve their record when they travel to Oceanside Collegiate at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. HHP (3-2) travels to Memorial Day on Wednesday.
