Hilton Head Christian Academy’s boys endured a trial by fire Friday, dropping their season opener 73-29 to SCISA powerhouse Porter-Gaud.
Mason Grant scored 19 points, and Tyler Kelly added 10 for the visiting Cyclones, who opened up a 31-14 halftime lead and coasted to the big win.
Jace Blackshear scored 10 points, and Floyd Hargrove had eight for the Eagles, who have had only one practice with the entire team present following the football team’s run to the state championship game. HHCA also was without Hayden Shinn, who played in the SCISA North-South All-Star Football Game on Friday.
The Eagles (0-1) travel to St. Andrew’s at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.
