Hilton Head High’s wrestling team started its season on a high note by sweeping three dual matches in a quad meet at Battery Creek on Wednesday.
The Seahawks made quick work of Academic Magnet (57-18) and Military Magnet (66-18) before finishing the night with a 53-30 win over the host Dolphins in a highly competitive match. That was the only loss of the night for Battery Creek, which defeated Military Magnet (72-6) and Academic Magnet (51-30).
“Absolutely amazing job by our guys,” second-year Seahawks coach Patrick Boulware said. “Glad to see the program turning back around. It was a really fun, entertaining match against Battery Creek.”
Three Seahawks went 3-0 on the night, as James Levy (113) recorded two pins and a technical fall, Alfred Young (285) had two pins and a decision, and Peter Rougeux (220) won three decisions. Drew Vigh (120), Santi Rueda (132), and Isreal Salmeron (195) were 2-0 for HHIHS.
Sam DeGroat, Johan Linares, Larson McManigle, Simeon Brown, and Kendall McMillan were undefeated for Battery Creek.
“Today was definitely a wake-up call,” Dolphins coach Deandre’ Johnson said. “Winning two of three is good, but we have a lot to work on if we want to reach our goals this year.”
Both teams are back in action Friday and Saturday at the May River Invitational.
