In a short time, we’ll announce the Week 9 RBC Heritage Player of the Week, but like we always do, we must first recognize the players whose less-publicized efforts helped the nominees get on the ballot.
We call them the Unsung Heroes presented by Candor USA, and they are the offensive linemen, defensive stalwarts, and special teams standouts whose contributions aren’t always apparent in the box score or to the casual viewer.
Here are your Week 9 Unsung Heroes:
• Zack Black, THA — Helped lead dominant defensive effort with two tackles, two interceptions, and a pass breakup in a 42-6 win over Dorchester Academy.
• Troy Chisholm, HHCA — Junior linebacker made eight tackles to help the Eagles shut down John Paul II in a 48-6 victory.
• Will Gray, HHP — Junior anchored the Dolphins’ defense with six tackles and an interceptions in a 54-7 win over Northwood Academy.
• Eli Hall, MRHS — “Unsung Heroes” regular racked up 13 tackles (10 solo) and forced and recovered a fumble in a 52-13 win at Battery Creek.
• Rett Harrell, MRHS — Junior defensive lineman was named the Sharks’ Trenches Player of the Week with eight tackles, a tackle for loss, and a sack in a 52-13 win at Battery Creek.
• Jackson Lanier, HHCA — Sophomore “Bulldog” with the type of performance that has made him a regular “Unsung Hero” — 14 tackles, four tackles for loss, and an interception in a 48-6 win over John Paul II.
