HSFB: See who was named the Week 6 RBC Heritage Player of the Week

It’s starting to seem like the folks in northern Beaufort County are big football fans or something.

Once again, fans from that side of the Broad River turned out big time, as four of the top five vote-getters in this week’s online poll hail from the northern portion of our coverage area.

Battery Creek’s Jaeon Allen (122 rushing yards, 2 TDs) was the top vote-getter at 23.45%, beating Beaufort High’s Daniel Phares (14.6%) by a healthy margin, and Whale Branch’s Jadon Grant (10.71%) and De’Arius Hazel (10.56%) finished fourth and fifth. May River defensive star Eli Hall (11.49%) was third.

So Allen picked up the fan vote, but what about our panel? Well, noted North of the Broad stan Mike McCombs cast his vote for Hazel (127 rushing yards on 12 carries, TD; 11 tackles), but the other three of us said, “Hail to the King” — the Homecoming King, that is.

Hilton Head Christian Academy’s Daniel Harrington had four receptions for 173 yards and a three touchdowns, a tackle for loss, and a fumble return for a touchdown in the Eagles’ 42-7 win over Northwood Academy on Friday — and he was named Homecoming King at halftime.

That was enough to convince three of us to support his candidacy this week, and that makes Daniel Harrington the Week 6 RBC Heritage Player of the Week.

Thanks for voting, and we’ll do it again next week!
