Youth Baseball: Bluffton Stays Alive At Dixie World Series

For the second straight day, Bluffton American bounced back from a tough loss to stave off elimination at the Dixie Youth Baseball AA (8U) Machine Pitch World Series in Ruston, Louisiana.

After going 1-1 in pool play Saturday, the Bluffton all-stars opened bracket play with a 10-3 loss to Tennessee on Sunday, sending them into the elimination bracket. The South Carolina state champs were able to stay alive, though, bouncing back for a 10-5 win over Mississippi in the nightcap.

Bluffton got off to a rough start against Tennessee, falling behind 6-0 after three innings and struggling to get the offense going. After breaking out with three runs in the fifth, Bluffton saw Tennessee tack on four in the bottom of the inning and hang on. Nicholas Carpenter had a hit and an RBI, while Nathan Guthrie, Mayze Wheeler, Jaxson LeBaron, Finn Boyles, and Nathan Fulton each added a hit and Zack Szypczak and Noah Sepulveda each had an RBI.

Bluffton’s bats were hot from the start against Mississippi, though, as they plated five runs in the first and scored in each of the first five innings to claim a five-run win and stay alive. Derek Blesie was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Carpenter was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs, and Szypczak was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. LeBaron and Guthrie each added two hits and an RBI, Declan Mitchell had two hits, and Fulton and Wheeler each had a hit and an RBI.

Bluffton will play an elimination game against Texas at 4 p.m. ET Monday with the winner playing a second game at 8:30 p.m. ET.
