Bryson Nimmer added another chapter to his sensational senior season at Clemson with a record-setting win in the Clemson Invitational on Sunday.
The Bluffton native and Hilton Head Christian Academy alumnus set a 54-hole school record by shooting 17-under-par 199 at The Cliffs @ Keowee Falls Course in Sunset, S.C., breaking the previous mark of 15-under that he shared with D.J. Trahan and Doc Redman.
Nimmer also set the Clemson record for wins in a season with his fourth victory of the year.
“Bryson was really zeroed in coming down the stretch,” Clemson coach Larry Penley told the school’s athletics website. “He was great off the tee and with his ball striking. He birdied four of the last five holes and didn’t have a putt over eight feet in any of those holes.”
Nimmer made a career-high 20 birdies and just three bogeys over three rounds, shooting 66-69-64, and he needed every stroke. He finished one shot ahead of Duke’s Adrien Pendaries and three clear of Georgia Tech’s Luke Schniederjans, who led Nimmer by four shots entering the final round.
