Hilton Head High rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to claim a 7-5 win over Beaufort High on Friday, sending the Eagles to their first loss of the season.
Jeff Hayes’ three-run double gave the Seahawks a 6-5 lead, and Hayes came around to score an insurance run before Cooper Kunich closed the door in the seventh as the Seahawks salvaged the finale of the three-game Region 7-4A series.
Hayes was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three runs, and three RBIs, Daniel Keber was 2-for-4 with a run, and Jake Roberts and JJ Mlodzinski each had a hit and an RBI for Hilton Head.
JR Richardson earned the win, allowing two runs and three hits over four innings in relief of starter Dean Seelbach. Kunich struck out two and allowed one hit in a scoreless seventh for the save.
Jeffrey Smyth and Paul Winland each had two hits and an RBI, Reed Reichel had two hits, and Luke Londono and Brendan Bowersox added an RBI each for the Eagles.
HHIHS (8-4, 1-2) opens a three-game region series at Colleton County on Monday. Beaufort (10-1, 2-1) starts a three-game region series against Bluffton at home Monday.
