May River picked up a quality non-region victory with a 5-3 home win over Hilton Head High on Monday.
Josh Patterson went 3-for-4 with an RBI and earned the win on the mound for the Sharks. Josh Reddy was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Cooper George went 2-for-3 and scored twice for May River.
The Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but May River answered with a four-spot in the bottom of the inning. Patterson’s single drove in George to tie it, and Reddy delivered a two-run double and scored on Joseph Tapscott’s single.
That was plenty of support for Patterson, who struck out five and allowed one run and two hits over five innings. Elijah Peter pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.
JJ Mlodzinski was 1-for-3 with two RBIs for the Seahawks. JR Richardson took the loss, allowing five runs and seven hits in 1 2/3 innings.
May River (2-3) opens region play at home against Lake Marion on Tuesday. HHIHS (6-2) travels to Battery Creek on Thursday.
