Hilton Head High gave up the lead in the top of the seventh and left the tying runs on base in the bottom of the inning in a 4-2 home loss to Wade Hampton on Wednesday.
The Seahawks were one out away from their sixth consecutive victory to start the season before Casyn Dobson’s three-run homer gave the Red Devils the lead with two outs in the seventh. Hilton Head High put two runners on with two outs in the bottom of the inning before Wade Hampton’s Jacob Cope recorded a strikeout to end the threat.
Matt Mebane was 1-for-4 with an RBI, and Colin Gross and JJ Mlodzinski each had a hit for the Seahawks. Cooper Kunich was tagged with the loss in relief of JR Richardson, who allowed one unearned run over four innings.
The Seahawks (5-1) travel to Wade Hampton for a rematch Friday.
