USCB’s softball team continued its impressive start to the season by sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Columbia International on Saturday.
The Sand Sharks won the opener 7-3 and blanked the Rams 11-0 in game 2 — their seventh shutout during a 10-0 start.
USCB needed a late rally in the first game after CIU took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the fifth inning. The Sand Sharks answered with five runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by pinch-hitter Haley Hawkins’ tie-breaking grand slam down the left-field line.
No rally was necessary in the second game, as Maria Molloseau and Abby Pac combined on a three-hit shutout. Kayla Boyle drove in three runs to lead USCB’s offense.
USCB (10-0) hosts Truett McConnell for a doubleheader at noon Friday.
