John Paul II’s boys took the lead with three minutes left but couldn’t hang on in a 50-40 loss to First Presbyterian Christian on Friday in the championship game of the JPII Tournament.
The Landers went 12-of-13 at the foul line down the stretch to pull away from the Golden Warriors.
Rashad Battiste had 11 points and seven rebounds, Sam Summa added 10 points and six boards, and Melik Frost contributed eight points and three assists for JPII.
Sheldon Lewis led First Presbyterian with 15 points and three steals and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team along with teammate Dashuan Carmon, who scored 10 points in the championship game and was named Most Outstanding Player.
Frost and Summa were named to the All-Tournament Team along with Beaufort Academy’s Jaylen Reeves.
