Once again, the power of the people has proven to be the difference in the RBC Heritage Player of the Week voting, and you – the fans – have crowned a new winner.
After taking the title for two straight weeks with the help of the fan vote, Beaufort Academy’s De’Shaun Epps had another huge game and picked up two votes from our panel, while Hilton Head Christian Academy’s Hayden Shinn and John Paul II’s Melik Frost each snagged one vote.
The fan voting went down to the wire, and it looked as if Eagles fans would once again lift Epps to the victory, but the JPII fans rallied behind Frost and he surged ahead by 52 votes to claim the fan vote and tie Epps 2-2.
With the fan vote serving as the tiebreaker, that makes Frost the RBC Heritage Player of the Week for Week 6, a well-deserved honor after another strong two-way performance in the Golden Warriors’ 28-27 win over Orangeburg Prep on Friday. Frost rushed for 87 yards on 11 carries – a healthy 7.9 yards per carry – and racked up nine tackles on defense in what has become a typical performance for the junior two-way standout.
We’ll do it again next week, and if we’ve learned anything this season it’s that the ballot will once again be loaded with worthy nominees.
Thanks for voting!
