Three days after helping Hilton Head High’s boys’ tennis team win the state championship, Seahawks senior Matt Oliver added an individual state title.
Oliver won three matches Monday and one Tuesday morning to advance to the final of the SCHSL Class 5A/4A individual state tournament and was named co-champion along with Spartanburg’s Bryce Keim after their championship match was suspended by rain at Cayce Tennis Center.
Hilton Head’s Davis Phillips also earned all-state honors by reaching the consolation semifinals before play was suspended, and he was voted the Sportsmanship Award winner.
In the Class 3A/2A/1A bracket May River’s Liam Beckler earned all-state honors by winning three straight matches in the consolation draw after dropping his first match.
