HS Tennis: HHIHS Boys Claim State Title

The dynamic duo at the top of the lineup did it again for Hilton Head High’s boys’ tennis team.

Matt Oliver and Davis Phillips won their singles matches, then teamed up for the clinching doubles victory, as the Seahawks defeated South Aiken 4-3 on Saturday to claim the Class 4A state champions – the program’s fourth state title overall and its second in the past five years.

Michael Oliver also won at the No. 4 singles, giving the Seahawks a chance to clinch the title without playing doubles. But South Aiken’s Sebastian Rogerson rallied after dropping the first set to Cooper Steinour on court 3, forcing the match to doubles.

Phillips and Matt Oliver removed any drama, though, dominating Thane Tiffany and Aaron Sklizovic 6-0, 6-0 to give the Seahawks the title.
