Hilton Head Prep edged rival Hilton Head Christian Academy by three shots to claim the SCISA Class 2A state golf title Tuesday at Hackler Golf Course in Conway.
Hilton Head Christian’s Daniel Azallion followed his first-round 74 with a 1-under 71 in the final round to claim the individual title by two shots over Hilton Head Prep’s Jonathan Griz (73-74), but the Dolphins held on for the team title.
The Dolphins took an eight-stroke lead into the final round, but the Eagles trimmed the deficit to one shot after nine holes to set up an exciting back nine. Max Green fired a 3-under 69 in the final round and Aidan McCloskey finished a 3-over 75 with an 8-foot birdie putt on the final hole to help Hilton Head Prep clinch the crown.
Defending champion Trinity-Byrnes finished third, followed by Spartanburg Christian.
