Beaufort Academy won a penalty shootout to knock off John Paul II in a boys’ soccer showdown Monday.
After playing to a 1-1 draw in regulation, the Eagles beat the Golden Warriors 4-3 in penalties with Edward McCormick delivering the winning kick.
BA’s Jaxon Spratling and JPII’s Sebastian Laverde scored in regulation. It was tied at 3 after the five-round shootout, but McCormick came through in the sixth round to win it.
BA’s David Mathai made five saves during regulation and stopped two shots in the shootout.
BA (3-0, 1-0) travels to Cathedral Academy at 5:30 p.m. Monday. JPII (1-2, 0-1) hosts Hilton Head Prep at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
