HS Lax: Wando Hands HHIHS Boys First Loss

Hilton Head High’s boys’ lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling 16-4 to state powerhouse Wando.

The Warriors kept the Seahawks off balance all day, taking an 11-1 lead at the half. Hilton Head struggled to get anything going on offense, as Will Frith led the Seahawks two goals and Jake Rader and Max Boyer each added a goal. Rader also tallied an assist.

Goalie Chris Valentino recorded 18 saves, while Colin Courtney (8 ground balls, 1 takeaway), Jordan Singleton (4 GBs, 1 TA), and Frith (6 GBs) led the Hilton Head defense.

“We simply did not execute the way we needed to,” Hilton Head coach Will Callegari said. “We cannot have 14 minutes of penalties and expect to win. Wando is a great team, and they played like one today. This game was a learning experience for our young team, and I am confident that we can regroup and bounce back Wednesday night.”

The Seahawks (3-1) host rival Bluffton on Wednesday.
