Five USCB student-athletes earned Sun Conference honors for their performances for the week of February 19-25.
BASEBALL
Nick Constan — Pitcher of the Week
Constan broke the USCB single-game record with 17 strikeouts in a complete game win against Florida Memorial. The previous record of 12 was reached six times by five different players.
Alex Murphy — Player of the Week
Murphy went 7-for-14 with four home runs, 14 RBIs, seven runs, eight walks, and two stolen bases while leading the Sand Sharks to a 3-1 week. Florida Memorial pitched around Murphy all weekend, intentionally walking him a couple of times, but Murphy was able to put together a 6-for-11 performance with three home runs to help the Sand Sharks take two of three from the Lions.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Darryl Dunham — Track Athlete of the Week
Dunham won the 400 meters and led the Sand Sharks to a second-place finish in the 4×100 relay and a fourth-place showing in the 4×400 relay at the Savannah State Eye Opener.
SOFTBALL
Abby Pac — Pitcher of the Week
Pac went 3-1 with a 0.35 ERA in four starts last week. Pac pitched 28 innings, compiling 21 strikeouts while giving up only one earned run. She walked only five batters and allowed 16 hits.
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Maiya Cooper — Athlete of the Week
Cooper won the 100 meters and helped the Sand Sharks finish second in the 4×100 relay and third in the 4×400 relay at the Savannah State Eye Opener. USCB’s time of 48.29 seconds in the 4×100 hit the NAIA “B” national qualifying standard.
