HS Soccer: Sharks Take Down Myrtle Beach, Fall To Bishops In Final

The May River boys soccer team knocked off Class 4A power Myrtle Beach before losing to top-ranked Bishop England in the championship game of the Charleston Shootout on Sunday.

Mikey Chappelear scored a hat trick and Conner Golden added a goal in the Sharks’ 4-3 win over Myrtle Beach in the semifinals. Nick Lewis, Chris Hernandez, and Joel Fleek each recorded assists, and Tony Rodriguez had six saves.

The championship match against Class 3A No. 1 Bishop England was scoreless at halftime before the Bishops scored four times in the second half.

“They just wore us down,” May River coach Misael Garzon said. “Five games in three days took its toll, but the boys had a great tournament and I’m proud of how we played this weekend from beginning to end.”

The Sharks (3-1) host Savannah Christian for their home opener at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 27.
