After dropping a pair of 5-4 games to No. 14 Reinhardt on Friday, the USCB softball team swept a doubleheader from Trinity Baptist on Saturday, winning 9-0 and 9-1.
In the opener against Reinhardt, the Sand Sharks rallied from a 5-1 deficit and had the tying run in scoring position in the fifth and seventh innings before the Eagles were able to get out of trouble each time. Alexa Moore went 2-for-3, and Taylor Boykin and Natassja Hatcher each had an RBI for USCB.
USCB led 3-1 early in game 2 and was up 3-2 until the Eagles plated three runs in the sixth. Kylie Kelly was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Boykin and Kaitlyn O’Hearn each had RBIs.
The Sand Sharks bounced back in a big way against Trinity Baptist, scoring five runs in the first inning of game 1 en route to a five-inning mercy-rule win. Maria Molloseau struck out four and walked one in a one-hitter. Kelly was 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs, and two runs, and Caroline Heaton drove in two runs.
It was more of the same in the finale, as USCB led 5-0 after two innings and again ended the game after five innings via the eight-run rule.
