May River’s boys soccer team picked up two more wins Saturday to claim a spot in the semifinals of the Charleston Shootout.
The Sharks posted their second consecutive shutout in a 5-0 win over West Ashley before playing most of their reserves in a 4-2 win over Palmetto Scholars to wrap up group play.
Conner Golden and Mikey Chappalear scored two goals apiece and Adrian Villalon added a goal in the win over West Ashley. Golden’s first goal came off a Nick Lewis assist just 30 seconds into the match. Tony Rodriguez and Robert Perez had one save apiece in the shutout.
Joel Fleek scored one goal and assisted on two more in the win over Palmetto Scholars. Chris Pineda and Alan Gonzalez also scored for the Sharks, and May River benefited from an own-goal. Perez made three saves for the win.
May River (3-0) plays Class 4A No. 3 Myrtle Beach in the semifinals at 9 a.m. Sunday.
