Hilton Head Prep’s boys used a dominant first half to build an insurmountable lead en route to a 62-50 win over Thomas Sumter in the first round of the SCISA Class 2A playoffs Saturday in Charleston.
The Dolphins led 43-8 at halftime despite going to their bench often, but the Generals got hot from 3-point range against Hilton Head Prep’s zone defense in the second half to make the final score closer.
Haddith Stewart scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Avern Montaque collected 16 points and 10 boards. Tyrone Calloway added 13 points and eight rebounds, and Stone McDonald grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds.
The Dolphins (24-2) will face Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach in the second round at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sumter Civic Center.
