Hilton Head Christian Academy’s girls withstood a strong challenge from visiting John Paul II to claim a 44-37 victory Tuesday.
The Golden Warriors trailed just 18-17 at halftime and pulled even at 20 on Tkai DeVore’s three-point play early in the third quarter, but the Eagles answered with a 9-3 run and held on down the stretch to clinch the region title.
Dior Shelton led the way with 19 points, Brielle McCarthy added 12, and Jossie Frazier scored nine for the Eagles. DeVore scored 16 points and Ayannah Thompson added eight to lead JPII.
Both teams continue region play Friday, as HHCA (17-1, 10-0) hosts Hilton Head Prep and JPII (19-5, 8-2) hosts Thomas Heyward.
