Host Hilton Head High was among the winners on the opening day of the Sonesta Hilton Head Resort Lady Seahawks Island Shootout.
Miley Ray scored 14 points and Caroline Brammer added 12 as the Seahawks set a season-high for scoring in a 48-36 win over Master’s Academy out of Oviedo, Fla., which was 9-1 coming into the tournament.
“This was a great win for us after struggling in the Seahawk Classic,” HHIHS coach Sean Rochester said. “Miley coming back helps us a ton, but our other kids really stepped up and made plays too.”
The Seahawks will face Mountain Vista (Colo.) in the semifinals, but they’ll have to wait an extra day to do so. The Beaufort County School District cancelled all extracurricular activities in anticipation of inclement weather Wednesday, so the tournament is scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. Thursday with eight games back-to-back throughout the day. Daily passes are $8.
