Bluffton’s season came to an end with a 48-21 loss to undefeated Gilbert in the second round of the SCHSL Class 3A playoffs Friday.
Hunter Eldridge and Jermaine Patterson hooked up for three touchdown passes, but the Bobcats couldn’t slow down Gilbert’s powerful offense. Cody Temple rushed for three touchdowns and Deandre Cook added two TD runs for the Indians.
Gilbert jumped out to an early 14-0 lead before Eldridge hit Patterson for a score to cut the deficit in half early in the second quarter. The Indians tacked on two more touchdowns before halftime for a 28-7 lead at the break.
Patterson’s 54-yard TD reception pulled the Bobcats within two scores before Cook’s second TD run made it 34-14. Patterson broke away for a 78-yard score to give the Bobcats hope again, but Temple sealed it with two late TD runs.
Bluffton finishes 7-4 in coach John Houpt’s first season at the helm.
