HS Tennis: Sharks Sweep Bobcats, Claim Region Crown

The May River High School girls tennis team wrapped up the regular season – and the Region 8-3A title – with a 6-0 win over rival Bluffton High School on Thursday.

The Sharks won three-set thrillers on courts 1 and 2, as Natalie Bassett and Margaret Zendzian each rallied after losing the first set.

Both teams will open the Class 3A playoffs Wednesday.

No. 1: Natalie Bassett (MR) def. Rachel Riley 4-6, 6-1, 10-3

No. 2: Margaret Zendzian (MR) def. Lydia John 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-5

No. 3: Jessica Smith (MR) def. Serena Lynn 6-0, 6-2

No. 4: Kelci Smith (MR) def. Anastasiya Antsyferova 6-2, 6-2

No. 5: Grace Saari (MR) def. Olivia Boshan 6-1, 6-2

Doubles

No. 2: Sayge Larocco/Jaelynn Basinger (MR) def. Alex Davis/Jerusha Lopez 6-0, 6-0
