Emma Hayward claimed medalist honors and led the Hilton Head Island High School girls golf team to its sixth consecutive region championship Monday at Sanctuary Golf Club.
Heyward shot 3-over-par 75 on a sloppy track on Cat Island, leading the Seahawks to a team total of 371 as they easily claimed the Region 8-4A crown. Beaufort High School finished second at 430, followed by Berkeley (475) and Cane Bay (512).
Beaufort’s Izzy Stone shot 82 to finish second and join Hayward on the all-region team along with Hilton Head High’s Morgan Caramello (95), Megan Ferguson (99), Julia Cardozo (102) and McKenzie Bradley (104), and Beaufort’s Caroline Baker (107).
The Seahawks and Eagles both advance to the Class 4A Lower State Championship next Monday at Hackler Golf Club in Conway.
